The sky has always been a part of our daily lives, greeting us when we open the curtains in the morning and guiding us home under the stars at night. But today, in modern cities like Eindhoven, we rarely see a clear sky due to the overwhelming glow of artificial light.
However, Team IGNITE is set to offer a fresh perspective at GLOW 2024 with their most ambitious project yet: SKYWAY.
SKYWAY is an immersive and interactive light installation that highlights the stark contrast between urban and natural environments. By exploring how artificial lighting affects our perception of space, the project invites visitors to reflect on how modern life takes away and confines our view of the universe. It transports viewers on a visual journey through the city reaching the rural landscape, revealing the hidden beauty of the night sky and the stars above—a sight increasingly elusive in our illuminated world.​

SKYWAY installation
The visitors’ journey starts in the city, where the light pollution is reflected in the overwhelming artificial lights and forms an artificial cloud of illumination. As they move their field of vision towards the sky, they are guided by lights that weave through the veins of society, tracing their way between the buildings and streets of Eindhoven. Gradually, the lights guide your gaze upwards to a clearer, more expansive sky. As the urban density gives way to rural immensity, revealing a stunning display of stars.
